Manuelito: Identifying Highly Modified Peptides in MS Spectra

Manuelito is a novel software tool that improves searches for post-translational modifications (PTM) of proteins analyzed by MALDI mass spectrometry. Primarily it has been built to facilitate the interpretation of MS spectra of histone proteins that are known to be subjected to multiple modification events (comprising e.g. acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation). However, the API is kept very open and flexible, thus, the provided executables can be used to analyze all (potentially) multiply modified peptides (i.e. p53, myoD etc.).

The software has been developed at the Adolf Butenandt Institute, Department of Molecular Biology (LMU Munich) and is heavily used at the Zentrallabor für Proteinanalytik (LMU Munich).

Manuelito is open source (published under GNU license) and requires Java 1.4+ to run. Both, a GUI and a web server application are available.
